Hornist Jason Pfiester is recognized for his versatile career spanning contemporary, classical, and jazz traditions. Based in Austria, he appears both as a soloist and ensemble musician, with his most recent solo performance taking place in Portugal with the Remix Ensemble Casa da Música under the direction of Enno Poppe. He performs regularly with leading groups such as Klangforum Wien, Black Page Orchestra, Ensemble XXI. Jahrhundert, PHACE, and Quasars Ensemble, and serves as solo hornist with both the Vienna Ensemble and Oper Burg Gars. He also tours internationally with groups such as the Rachmaninoff International Orchestra.

 

Equally at home in other traditions, Jason has performed with Bach Consort Wien, appeared with jazz ensembles, and is frequently featured with Bühne Baden. His artistic interests include microtonality and extended techniques, which he pursues in solo projects as well as ensemble contexts, expanding the expressive possibilities of the horn.

 

Outside of performance, Jason is passionate about studying philosophy, discovering new scores, and spending time with his wife and children.
