Matei Ioachimescu is a renowned Romanian flutist whose artistic career is marked by an impressive concert activity and remarkable stylistic versatility. Celebrated for his interpretations of Baroque and modern repertoire, he is equally acclaimed for his innovative cross-over recitals that transcend traditional genre boundaries.

A graduate of the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, the city he now calls home, Matei Ioachimescu is the recipient of numerous awards and scholarships. He collaborates with some of Europe’s most compelling musicians and performs regularly in prestigious concert halls across the continent.

His debut album with pianist Cătălina Butcaru, Lumière, has been hailed by critics as a reference recording for the flute–piano repertoire. As a soloist, he appears both in classical concertos and in first performances of works by contemporary composers, together with leading philharmonic orchestras in Romania and abroad.

Matei Ioachimescu is widely known for his national and European tours, including Legends, Romanian Rhapsody, ICONS, Electric, inSuflu, and La Vida Loca — an internationally successful project presented on stages in Romania, Austria, Poland, and Estonia, which led to the release of the album of the same name in 2019 with the Viennese label ViennArt.

In recognition of his sustained artistic excellence and the high quality of his projects, he was awarded the title “Ambassador of Integration” in 2013 by the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He is frequently invited to serve as a jury member at international competitions and to lead workshops in Austria, Japan, Hungary, Romania, and Croatia.

2020, Matei Ioachimescu has been teaching flute at the Faculty of Music and Theatre of the West University of Timișoara, where his students have gone on to win prizes at prestigious international competitions.
