Sofie Thorsbro Dan

 

Born in 1990 the Danish violinist Sofie Thorsbro Dan studied at The Royal Academy of Music Aarhus with Emile Cantor and Michelle Makarski from where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in 2012. She continued at The University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with Ernst Kovacic and in June 2015 she gained a Master’s Degree from The University of Music and Performing Arts Graz in "Performance Practice in Contemporary Music" (PPCM) with Klangforum Wien.

During her studies Sofie attended several courses with violinists as Ruben Aharonian, Milan Vitek, Eszter Haffner, Mark Gothoni, Graeme Jennings and Priya Mitchell. She collaborated with composers including Simon Steen-Andersen, Beat Furrer, Bernhard Lang, Georges Aperghis, Tristan Murail, Gerd Kühr, Agostino de Scipio and conductors as Emilio Pomàrico, Peter Rundel, Rei Munakata and Clement Power. 

Sofie played in various festivals and venues such as Wiener Konzerthaus, Porgy & Bess (Vienna), Danish Radio Concert Hall, Wiener Festwochen, Wien Modern, Unsafe&Sounds Festival, Impuls Festival, Donaueschinger Musiktage and performed with ensembles as Klangforum Wien, Scenatet (DK), Schallfeld Ensemble (AT), Prometheus Ensemble Berlin and Kammerensemble für Neue Musik Berlin. 

She is member and co-founder of the Black Page Orchestra, an ensemble for radical and uncompromising music.
